ABSTRACT:
From morphing infrastructure to automating employment, technology companies have reshaped our lives. In the midst of admiring "innovation" and "progress" we cannot afford to ignore the economic, social, and ethical consequences of scientific ingenuity. Tech companies have a measurable impact on their surrounding communities, the environment, and -- to be frank -- the world. In an ecosystem where money is freedom and easily accessible jobs scarce how will we justify a chasm of income inequality due to growing automation? Must we accept such a future? Or, can we instead upgrade existing infrastructures to ensure that the gems mined from technological innovation improve the lives of all? (Advisor: Juliana Bidadanure, Philosophy)
