Stanford professors Charles E. Eesley and William F. Miller have released a report on an innovation survey of Stanford alumni/ae, which mentions several Symbolic Systems Program alums and affiliated faculty. For-profit and nonprofit corporations founded by SSP alums that are mentioned in the report include:

• Instagram (cofounded by Mike Krieger, '08, M.S. '09);
• Kiva (cofounded by Matt Flannery, '00);
• LinkedIn (founded by Reid Hoffman, 89, and a founding team that included Eric Ly, '91);
• Meebo (cofounded by Elaine Wherry, '01);
• Plaxo (cofounded by Todd Masonis, '01); and
• Sifteo (cofounded by Dave Merrill and Jeevan Kalanithi, both '00). 

Marissa Mayer ('97) is mentioned as an initial core team member of Google. SSP-affiiliated faculty members Mehran Sahami (Associate Professor, Teaching, of Computer Science);  and Terry Winograd (Professor of Computer Science, Ermeritus) are both mentioned for their roles at Google.
